How much of your REACH compliance depends on your suppliers?

Many organisations rely on suppliers, Only Representatives, or upstream partners to maintain REACH compliance. In practice, this can work efficiently – until it doesn’t.

Under UK REACH, where regulatory responsibilities and timelines differ from the EU, supplier-led compliance strategies may not always provide the same level of certainty. Decisions made upstream – such as withdrawing support for a substance, changing market focus, or restructuring registrations – can have direct implications downstream.

For some businesses, this creates a control gap. Compliance may appear to be in place, but the underlying responsibility, data access, or registration support may sit elsewhere. As a result, changes may not be identified until they begin to affect supply continuity or market access. Organisations are therefore reassessing how much reliance they place on third parties, and whether their current arrangements provide sufficient resilience under the evolving UK REACH regime.

In this context, the key question is not simply whether compliance exists, but whether it is within the organisation’s control to maintain it.

At ACRE Consultancy, we support businesses in evaluating where their REACH compliance responsibilities sit, where third-party dependencies create risk and whether current arrangements provide the level of control required.
